About Mortal Kombat
The original Mortal Kombat was developed as a reaction to the popular Capcom fighting game Street Fighter II. It had simpler controls and digitized graphics. The game was created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, who were both working at Midway at the time. Boon came up with the game concept after seeing a Street Fighter II demonstration at a trade show. Mortal Kombat became one of the most popular video games in the 1990s. Critics consider it to be one of the greatest video games ever made. The first sequel, Mortal Kombat II, was released in 1993. Both games were adapted into films in 1995. In the game, most characters fight on behalf of their realm. The primary heroes defend Earthrealm against conquering villains from Outworld and the Netherrealm. The early installments feature the characters participating in the Mortal Kombat tournament to decide their realm's fate.
